One of the fun locations I get to travel to for work ... got to sneak into the Ralph Engelstad arena at UND. Very nice facility for hokey!

Whoever is in charge of college athletics has decided that the UND Sioux mascot is racist and derogatory, so they mandated that UND has to change it. If they do not, they will not be allowed to participate in college athletics.

Interestingly enough, the members of the Sioux tribe that live in ND have officially stated that in their opinion, there is nothing wrong with the Sioux mascot, and they don't have a problem with it.

Just like the Florida State Seminole mascot...the tribe has no problem with it.

And I, being of Irish descent, take exception to the use of the leprechaun as the mascot for any team known as the "Fighting Irish" but I keep it to myself for the fear of getting lumped up by the people who actually care about it, and not use it as a political statement.

Besides, I'm a lover not a fighter.

My alma mater's mascot was the Chiefs.
They are now the River Hawks.

No American Indian groups were against the mascot.
But the elitist leftists knew better then they did, and they changed it for their own good.

It must be tough to go through life as a thin-skinned loser that feels affected by a sports team mascot.

You hit that nail right on the head. From the beginnings of sports to this day, sports teams have been given the nicknames of ethnic groups. No one has taken any offense until these ultra liberal crackpots came onto the scene.

My high school teams were called "The Vikings". I guess we didn't care if we pissed off the Scandinavians. Maybe we should ask Sven if he's offended.

And it goes beyond mascot names.
No longer can you buy tickets from "Scalpers" because that is derogatory to Indians as well.
Now you have to call them "ticketmaster"...

I come from a line of degraded names ... I was an Indian when I went to HS ... my brother was an Indian, my mom was an Indian and my dad was an Indian ... my son however, was a Wildcat. Just sad. It's only a matter of time before PETA get's involved in these derogatory animal names being used as mascots and we'll have to change it to the Raindrops or the Sandstorms ...

Apparently all of this PC crap is for the birds, literally. Your Chiefs are now the River Hawks. Miami University (Oxford, OH) went from the Redskins to the Red Hawks. BAH!
