E-2 PRIVATE RICK MILLER RECENTLY BUSTED FROM E-3, WAS ASKED BY THE BY THE SQUADRON
COMMANDEDER IF HE HAD WAIVED AT THE COLONEL AS THEY PASSED EACH OTHER ON THE
HIGHWAY , RICK DRIVING A 1954 MG TF 1200CC, THE COMMANDER DRIVING A FORD T-BIRD.

RICK'S RESPONSE WAS A POLITE NO, I ONLY WAVE AT OTHER SPORTS CARS.

SAME COMMANDER WHO HAD ASKED ME WHEN I REPORTED TO THE SQUADRON,
IF I MINDED ROOMING WITH A COLORED MAN, WE HAD TWO MAN PRIVATE ROOMS
IN MY AIR FORCE.

OBVIOUS ANSWER WAS GIVEN BY E-3 PRIVATE FIRST CLASS (at that time) RICK MILLER.
"WHAT COLOR SIR."

Great stories!

As a child of 10, I remember my family staying at McGuire AFB (NJ?) for weeks until there was a plane available for our vacation in Spain in 1963. Whatever money was saved waiting for the cheap fare was spent on a room with a fan and on crappy meals at the sandwich vending machines and officers' club . Oh well. It was still an adventure for me.

On a side note, Rick, it was a filthy portable fan there that began my brother's eye problems. He would stare at it until he got a particle lodged in his eye. It became infected & he almost lost it but was eventually successfully treated by a physician from St. Albans Naval Hospital(NY) by the name of Dr. Richard Raskin later to become the transgendered tennis player Renee Richards (true story).
My brother blames him/her for being cockeyed.:^o
