A mortar from inside Syria struck in Turkey, killing five people. Turkey retaliated with radar guided bombs/missiles. Do we even know for certain who launched the mortar?...

This has been an ongoing occurrence on that border- just hasn't been reported. Much more happens between Pakistan and India.

Yes. And, for worth, I do have a cashmere sweater.

I think what distinguish this is that it is a new situation between formerly very friendly coping up over the last, short two year period. In other wards, the Paki/India thing is at least decades old and is relatively predictable, whereas Syria and Syria v. Turkey are recent to very recent (today)without a decades long history.

I think this makes the unpredictability much greater. Hope I am wrong.

The rebels are fractured.
I was just thinking: What if it was the rebel who launched the mortar to try to draw Turkey in- to the rebels advantage?

I have a message from your handler............

he says, don't trust the Cobbler.
And the honey pot may be compromised.

I assume you know what that means.

^ (wink wink nod nod)

Much ado about nothing IMHO- Turkey has her hands full defending traditional vestiges of secularism from the onslaught of domestic islamic fundamentalism, Kurdish dissidents, Armenian neighbors, and the Russian threat from the north. Nothing in it for them ($$$) for a Turkish incursion into Syria which is a divided mess and no real threat but would be a bellyache to control if invaded. However, Turkey is REALLY interested in Greece's islands and in the undeveloped oil reserves in "Macedonia" (northern Greece).

Turkey is just waiting and watching as Athens burns for the right time to invade and liberate her long-suffering proletariat. And to give them the gift of Democracy, and stuff.
