Professor claims Sandy Hook shooting ‘didn’t happen’
A UNIVERSITY professor has sparked controversy after claiming the Sandy Hook school shooting did not happen as reported — and may not have occurred at all.
James Tracy, known for conspiracy theories, claims trained “crisis actors” may have been employed by President Obama’s administration to get public opinion behind gun control laws.
Twenty children and six adults were killed in Newtown, Connecticut, by 20-year-old gunman Adam Lanza in December.
But Tracy, 47, a professor of media history at Florida Atlantic University, wrote: “As documents relating to the Sandy Hook shooting continue to be assessed and interpreted by independent researchers, there is a growing awareness that the media coverage of the massacre of 26 children and adults was intended primarily for public consumption to further larger political ends.”
He also added: “While it sounds like an outrageous claim, one is left to inquire whether the Sandy Hook shooting ever took place — at least in the way law enforcement authorities and the nation’s news media have described.”
Tracy went on to say that he has not seen photos of bodies, adding: “Overall, I’m saying the public needs more information to assess what took place.
“We don’t have that. And when the media and the public don’t have that, various sorts of ideas can arise.”
The university has distanced itself from the professor, saying: “James Tracy does not speak for the university. The website on which his post appeared is not affiliated with FAU in any way.”
But officials in Newtown slammed Tracy as an “embarrassment” – and also did not spare his bosses.
Former teacher E Patricia Llodra said: “Shame on you, too, FAU, to have someone like this on your payroll. Professor Tracy is an embarrassment to me as an educator and should be to you as well.
“I can assure you, sadly, that the events here in Newtown unfolded exactly as are being reported, with the horrible outcome of the violent death of 26 people, including 20 children.
“It is outrageous and an insult to all caring people to think that this man would choose this event as a stage for his outlandish conspiracy theories.”
