Actually, I've seen 20 or so of these doves in the back at times. They like to hang out in the big tree and at the 'spa', the Koi pond under this pergola. They usually don't stay long. Never noticed any -big- 'messy' issue afterwards.
I was sitting on the patio one day having a Duvel and Diamond Crown when these two had a couple of wham-bam-thank-you-mam sessions in the tree. Over the next couple of days I noticed them building that nest. We had a pretty good thunderstorm last night. Got up this morning and the one with the duty was still sitting there on the nest.
The one that's not on duty tends to run off other doves that come by now.
Edit: Oh yeah. I also put fresh water in that bird bath every 2 or 3 days. While sitting there on the patio, birds will fly down to the bird bath and then notice me. They'll sit there staring. Some fly away immediately, but others hop in and do their fluttering dunks, hop up on the fence, preen, and then fly away. I have Robins, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Mockingbirds, Doves, and other small birds that stop by.
A big Hawk landed at the top of a tall tree down the way the other day. There were 4 or 5 Blue Jays swooping down on him and screeching. Looked like he completely ignored them. After he flew away the Blue Jays came down to the bird bath and took a refreshing dip. 😇
