We're considering moving back to San Francisco for a variety of reasons, and my company will pay for the move.

My fear is how to transport 1,500 cigars in the cruel summer weather. When we moved here it was April and everything worked out fine, now it would likely be August or early September and I'm freaked out. The same goes for 130 bottles of wine.

Any suggestions?

I'd travel thru Canada and then head down the coast.... 👍

If going across country. I would try to sell some of that off and just buy a cooler. Get some of those Ice packs and beads.

By Ice Packs I mean the ones at the pharmacy/CVS that you can crush.

1500 cigars and 130 bottles of wine... you could throw the most awesome moving party ever!

Mail them off to a trustworthy friend in the area and have them hold the goods for safe keeping while you do the move.

Let me clarify -

We will be using a moving service so they would either be on a truck for approx ONE WEEK. The other options are that I drive them cross-country or some other magical recommendation from my BOTL/SOTL. The car route makes it tough for my wife and daughter...

I have two big coolers (100 and 75 qt) and one large tupper (72 qt).

Moving from NY to SF.

Contact a freight broker and see if you can piggyback on a refrigerated truck returning to CA.

There are probably lots of full trucks heading east, but they're likely somewhat empty on the return trip.

Or else just send the filled coolers via 2 or 3 day delivery.

IMO, Driving it all cross-country is the ONLY OPTION. I didn't trust our movers just going ~ 5 miles in our town when I moved in December, 2012. All of my cigars (~3,500) and ~75 bottles of wine & spirits were moved by me in our cars. High temps will kill cigars and wine. Good luck with it. It was a PITA to just move all of my cigars, etc... across town.
