Our group health rates for the annual renewal came in today.

Wanna play high/low on what the increase (%) will be when the new major med rates kick in Sept 1?

I'll spare you the suspense... 33 FAWKIN % 😣

This is actually what it's been doing the last 3+ years, anywhere from 25 - 30%. I was thinking it was the insurance company's way of preparing for Obamacare, and that's probably the case, but it's probably also a way to ensure a set growth rate for the company and stockholders, and create fat bonus checks for the executives. 😣

Pizzed off doesn't even begin to describe how I feel. It's been hard enough being able to afford these premiums the last couple years (in this wonderful economy). This is just another slap in the face. 🤦 This isn't something that can simply be passed on to someone down the chain. Anthem (and probably all other carriers) can go F**K themselves...as soon as they quit f**king us.

For anyone that complains that their employer takes too much from their paycheck for insurance, now you (should) know why.

This cannot be true......Obamacare drives prices down AND you keep your doctor.

33%? That's about right, Dave. Little to do with Obamacare IMHO. We've been averaging OVER 30% annual increases for the past decade or so. We're now at our limit. The deductibles are laughably high and it is making the policy more of a catastrophe prevention device anyway. Soon, they're going to get that premium rammed up their collective privileged asses.

What we need is more illegal immigrants.

That will bring the rates down.

Maybe we should entice more of them to make the swim by granting amnesty to those who already made it.

I'm sure you're right about the increases occuring over the last decade. It just seems these last 3 - 5 years have been stuck in my head at 25 - 30%, where in years past it was single-digits to low-teens (seems like a real bargain now). Thinking back over the last decade, I remember when premiums (group pricing) for single coverage was just under $200/month and for family coverage around $700/month. Now, with our renewal rates, depending on whether someone elects health Plan A/Plan B (Plan B being a more comprehensive, buy-up plan), the rates will be $788/$927 (single) and $2432/$2862 (family)...per month.

Is that "affordable" healthcare?

No, of course not. But your "only recent" rate hikes may possibly depend on how large your group is, Dave. Ron is correct in that larger groups/businesses/cooperatives have only just begun to feel the kinds of premium increases that smaller businesses had been experiencing all along long before the impending Obamacare.

We're a small group (<50), and pretty much always have been. Of course, our employee participation is weak because the rates have never really been viewed as "affordable." As a small company, we haven't participated/contributed as much as we'd like on the employer side, and with these increases it's become even more difficult. So we have always struggled with hitting the desired employee participation that Anthem (and I'm sure most carriers) aim for at 50%+ employee enrollment. Now employers are starting to tell their employees that if their spouse can get coverage through their employer that they need to do so. Our employees will love that...having to leave their spouse's plan and seeing what they'll have to pay when they get into our group. 🤦 I guess it will help our participation...if they decide to continue working for us.

Dave,

If it makes you feel any better we (wife and I) are a small group. We pay about $1500 per month for a catastrophic plan 10k each deductible !!!

Rates just went up 18% July 1. Last year they went up 22%

Your premium hikes are lower than most BUT your actual premium for 2 people with a 10k deductible is pretty bad, Topper.

Ours (small business) is a situation that may actually benefit from Obamacare as far as overall costs are concerned. Availability of doctor(s), 2nd opinions, non-schedule procedures, etc. may be another case altogether but then, you ask yourself, What's the next step- NO coverage at all?! Like everything else in life, I suspect we're going to end up with third rate, assembly line care from third world medical graduates who work for nothing.

Welcome to the Affordable Care Act!

The quote for our small company group was $600/mon. I was by far the youngest so I said no thanks. I got individual insurance for less than $100. It's a high deductible plan but also has small office and prescription copays and a yearly physical at 100%.

😳 Like heya'll it was. It was written by communists like Kagan 10 years ago and got rammed down our throats by barely enough on the left, NONE on the right, and signed into law by a usurper who's issueing exemptions to all his family and friends.

Then he pressured the SCOTUS to rubber-stamp it, while the author(s) sat back smiling. They must have Roberts in a shot with his stones to back of a goat or something - its still mind numbing.

Newsflash: The Insurance compaines wouldn't have written it - it's designed to put them out of business.

Better line up a good doc in India, and save up your rupees!

We had very limited choices of companies that would write a 2 person group in Florida.. Most here require 4... Non group (under Florida law companies have to offer a plan to everyone here), but the prices are nuts.. A standard plan with $500 deductible for my wife and I was $50,000 per year!! with 10K deductible is was only $35,000!!!!! So the small business plan at $15K then ($18K now) was a deal!!! 😣 And that was 2 years ago before I had my medical issues....

We may actually be much better off when the pools open under Obamacare as we are older and will get the benefit of age as compared to the youngens who will get higher rates to subsidize us!!! I don't think for older people who can't get individual policies now that Obama care will be a negative as it really couldn't get anymore ridicules than it already is.... We have to much in assets to go uninsured, but in 2012 my out of pocket monies for health and dental including not covered, co-pays, deductibles were like $40,000 plus.. I had 2 operations, and had need of some major dental work just to top things off... In all honesty I certainly cannot afford to keep that up.. Thankfully no complications this year..

That's also why i kind of disappeared from here last year..Just starting to poke around here again.....
