Saying the U.S. prison population is "outsized and unnecessarily large," U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder today said he has ordered changes in Justice Department polices so that some low-level, nonviolent drug offenders with no ties to gangs or drug cartels won't be charged with crimes that impose "draconian mandatory minimum sentences."
In a speech at the annual meeting of the American Bar Association's House of Delegates in San Francisco, Holder said the United States can't prosecute or incarcerate its way to becoming a safer nation. He urged that incarceration be used to "punish, deter, and rehabilitate -- not merely to warehouse and forget."

Film at 11.... 🤔

I love it when they spend countless hours and money creating illegal scenarios, er, setting up stings instead of solving real crime.
Ever been caught with the wallet tied to a string trap? It's not pretty.

I agree with the premise, that we shouldn't be crowding our prisons with folks caught with a joint in their pocket. But here's the problem. The AG is suppose to up hold the laws of the land, not decide which ones are to be enforced, and which ones are to be ignored. We need to change the laws through proper means, not by a dictator's decree. Anyone who doesn't see that this administration is a bunch of want to be dictators, who think they are above our Constitutional form of government, is blind. But he11, as long as they keep giving away free stuff, their lemmings will continue to support them, and even applaud their abuses of power.... and stuff.

I need to study the law a little bit I guess... but to me, someone strung out on meth is a hell of a lot more dangerous that someone who just smoked a joint... the law should reflect that.. 3 convictions of possesion of pot shouldn't equal a similar sentence of crack or meth..... 😟

1 step forward with this, 2 steps backward with domestic spying.

The good thing is, you will be able to do weed deals over the phone without speaking in code now. Sure, the NSA will be monitoring the conversation, but they ain't gonna bother with you. 🇨🇮

We'd probably be better off just sentencing them to a couple of terms in Congress instead.

they (whoever it was on NPR) were saying on the radio that only 16% of drug users were black but 60% of drug offenders in jail were black..... seemed kinda odd to me if it were true.... 😟
