2 liter bottle.

Cut the top off.

Put 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup water and a package of yeast in the bottom.

Flip the top upside down and put it back on top putting black electrical tape around the top.

Mosquitos are attracted to black and C02.

Refill when full of skeeters.

i had a magnet years ago that worked excellent. found that mosquitoes still swarmed around the chicken roost, so i got a cabinet fan, attached a paint filter bag, hung it next to the chicken roost and ran it at night. caught way more mosquitoes and the chickens ate the catch when i emptied the bag. eggs and mosquito control without the propane

There are lots of ways to attract, catch, kill or otherwise dispose of mosquitoes by the millions.

The problem is that there will always be more to take their place.

They are indeed attracted to CO2. They are weak flyers. So the wind brings them to you and they do the rest.

At home, you can use a fan. It doesn't take much.

Smoking a cigar is good, because it masks the CO2.

A mosquito magnet will work if all your surrounding neighbors have one.

But if it's just you, then you'll be fighting a never ending supply.

I read once that the most effective bug zapper is one you buy for your neighbors. =d> =d> =d>

Talking about mosquitoes reminds why I was sooo happy to move away from the swamps on the gulf coast of Texas. I do miss the people and the beef barbeque though.

The theory/claim is that constant running catches zillions of them including the new hatching generation, and that will reduce the ability to reproduce over about a six week span, leaving a much smaller local population at the end of that time frame and less and less reproduction over the season. After all, it's only the females that bite so it's only the females that are drawn to the trap. They need blood to reproduce.

Also, forget the 1/4 to 1/2 acre claims, more like 30 to 40 foot radius, good enough for my front stoop or back patio smoking sections. But I don't have a prevailing wind direction, much shifting of direction every hour, and that is part of the machines' effectiveness. Propane is part of the lure as it is turned into co2, but canisters of something like "octavin" (I know that's not it) mimics veg scents, another attractor along with co2, and heat.

My immediate reaction was the same as yours, I'll be pulling in my neighbors skeeters. But my friends in Centerville have one across the pool from where they sit, and I never saw one skeeter the whole weekend there recently (how was N Conway btw?). Their yard overlooks the spot where the ocean meets Bumps River, spectacular view/location and normally skeeter coast potential. Did nothing about the 3 week greenhead season though.

Had to look up 'greenhead'. We call 'em horseflys.

I go to Minnesota every June and take these.

They actually work pretty good. Surprisingly the little OFF clip ons work, too. Are they perfect? No...but they make life a helluva lot more bearable if you're somewhere (like Minnesota) with a ton of skeeters.

+1 on the Thermacell, I love mine and it works well. Keep in mind it only takes care of a small area, but it does it well.
