A consult by phone or in person with a Disability Lawyer who does service related claims is almost always FREE! In your case, you will need to be very careful as whatever you "prove" might not be enough to obtain benefits, but could disqualify you from your current job. Wish I could help more on this one...

Good advice.

I have a service connected disability from Iraq but have not and will not make a claim any time soon due to the fact that I will no longer be able to snowboard which is a passion of mine. It's just not an option. Im sure I even qualify for $1000 a month, it's still not worth not being able to snowboard.

IMHO you are confusing mil disability with workman's comp. Believe you can snowboard all you want on a mil disability.

Well, I hope you earn and will earn a good enough living to never regret your decision. The longer you wait, the more difficult it will be to reverse your decision. Calculate the present value of the monthly benefit over the course of the rest of your life expectency. Then make a "rational" decision by comparing economic present value v. utility of snowboarding. Also, if you can still snowboard, yet have a disability that is compensible, then you should not have to stop snowboarding...

I'm a disabled vet

File your claim, back it up with your medical records. Follow the VAs instructions. If they deny your claim, write your Senator and call the paralyzed Veterans of America. Go in for reevaluation, set up direct deposit.

I'm also a disabled vet. Like Mathen said, file your claim. The sooner, the better. The VA backlog is huge. If the PVA isn't handy, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) can help. If there's a VA facility nearby, the DAV and/or the VFW may have an office with claim specialists at the facility. Thanks for your service.
