In 1975, Florida State was had previous seasons of 1-11 and 3-8 and was ranked the worst Div I school in the nation. Enter Bobby Bowden, whose first action at Florida State was to call his buddy Tom Osbourne at Nebraska and offer to be the Husker's door mat getting on their 1980 schedule, Bobby quickly turned it around. Look at 1980 schedule of ranked teams. Since then FSU has consistently scheduled the toughest independents for their schedules, Notre Dame, Miami, others, to prove their mettle. Last year West Virginia cancelled their 2012 and 2013 games with FSU, so FSU has been scrambling to fill the slots, good luck with that! Tried Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and others, but still have doormats like Bethune-Cookman and Savannah State and Murray State. The BCS and gigantic conferences makes scheduling like this impossible as others will not schedule the tough schools anymore, unless they get a big payout, plus they still have to play some of the teams in their conference, which may also suck. Plus, just look at what the conferences do to every school, this is a portion of the ACC scheduling criteria.
"The criteria used to develop the schedule includes the following: 1. Each ACC school will play eight conference games annually, four at home and four on the road.
2. Each ACC school will play three home divisional games and three on the road.
3. Each ACC school will play one home cross divisional game and one road cross divisional game. When schools will play their permanent crossover opponent at home, they will play their rotating crossover opponent on the road and vice versa.
4. Within each division, all teams will either play all of their primary crossover games at home or away in a given year with all of the rotating crossover opponents all played at home or away.
5. Each ACC school will play all of their rotating crossover opponents twice during the 12-year rotation, once at home and once on the road, but not consecutively."
So, teams have their hands tied,
Alabama has Chattanooga, Mississippi State, Colorado State, Georgia State and
your USC has U Central Florida, Mississippi State, and the great, Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (?!).
Man, I am really sounding defensive about FSU, but think they have won everything they can and played the "BCS game" just like most of the other top schools: to play a few of the top schools, win their conferences, and have a few rest games.
While I am a huge Jameis Winston fan, he has also got some STUDS to catch his passes and the defensive and offensive lines are GREAT.
How bout them Noles!!!
