They could've just not done anything and let it implode on its own and not expended any political capital in this fight and come out in a better position than trying to use a backdoor way to defund the program. I think both side are going to take a hit on this program in the end but the Republicans could've come out in a better position if they had let it play out before they showed their cards and bet the house. JMO...
End the end I think they will throw it back in our laps (i.e. more taxes) because it is after all a government "Of the people"... [sarcasm]
