So, a couple friends from work have one of these and both swear it's the best invention ever. Costco has them for $499 with a 7 year warranty. I guess it makes smoothies, soups, ice cream, etc...

Pretty damn steep for a blender, but I am considering it. What say you? (Ram is being consulted along with the rest of you, but obviously I will give more weight to his opinion... because he has a bat)

Get a sledge-o-matic. It slices, dices even removes fingerprints from walls.

On a serious note, looks like a hell of a blender. But, is it really worth that much? I've got a 20 year old Osterizer that I bought for about $20.

This thing has probably made enough frozen drinks to fill a swimming pool. In addition, I've used it to puree frozen veggies. Still going strong.

YMMV

Shawn, American Test Kitchen on PBS recently did a comparison, they cited a model at half the price that was almost as good at half the price. Don't remember the name.

I have the same 20+ year old blender as abrinac.

I have an Oster as well. I use that to make protein shakes, primarily, but it doesn't make soup or ice cream and good luck trying to chop up spinach leaves or kale with it... they sit on top.

This thing has a setting where you add the ingredients, push a button, and in minutes you have hot soup. Cleans itself, too. I'm gonna have to look for that other one, Jamie.

Edit: Found it, Jamie... it was the KitchenAid 5-speed blender. They ranked it #1 because it was less than half the price, but they preferred the Vitamix 5200 at $449. I am looking at the 6300 which is usually $649, but Costco has it for $499. Prolly take the wife to watch the demo at Costco this weekend.

I got one a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. It is way better than the blend tech that Z is talking about above and can be had for about the same price.

I've been living on smoothies and soup ever since I got it. I've even lost a few pounds. It makes a mean hot chocolate two by putting almond milk and Hershey bars in it and let and it blend until it heats up

If you go to their site you can get the 5200 they call it the standard version for $299 reconditioned with a five year warranty. It is the exact same model without a couple of the presets. The presets are not necessary because typically do running at full blast anyway. Everything about the Cosco unit is exactly the same as what you will get in the reconditioned unit short of the presets

Use this as your guide but the reconditioned one is 30 bucks off right now so now it is 299

It sounds crazy but some of the best money I've spent lately.

I talked to the folks at vita mix and occasionally they have the dry grains container on sale for 50 bucks so I'm waiting for that

Didn't see the KitchenAid peace. Usually the vita mix is compared to the blend tech. Consumer reports is the vita mix number one

Don't let me stop you. I just say order the reconditioned one for 300 and spend the hundred and 50 on frozen fruits and vegetables at Cosco

The other night I blended tomatoes celery ^ squash spinach and corn into a soup then at the very end added rotisserie chicken breast and tortilla shells.

Awesome

It will not fit under most cabinets though if you want to spend more money consider one of the next-generation ones there shorter wider and a little more powerful

Yeah but trust me it's not the same. And this ends up being a whipped hot chocolate.

I can't fault a Vitamix because it's made in the USA but i have had one of these for 4 years and it is both similar and fantastic for 150 bucks , The warranty is great and i used it for a lid and they went way overboad to make me happy..

.... Wtf is wrong with you people? Unless you're planning on juicing a steak, there is something seriously wrong with this conversation.

Smoothies are things you buy from the girl with big fake tits when you're leaving the gym. They cost 8$ and this is the only appropriate time to consume them.
