If a cow (or cows) dies in the sub-freezing temps, can you take to butcher for meat? And/or how soon does the cow need to get to the butcher?

edit:

Cows can't read so putting a "Caution thin ice" sign near water will be of no effect. :-"

Most processors will not butcher a dead animal. Especially if the FDA monitors his activity.

There is no way for them to tell how the animal died. So you have to kill the animal on site or have them kill it.

Not FDA.......DEpt of Agriculture.

I have a bud that inspects meat for DOA.

I know that is the rule here in the Sip.

I think it's USDA/federal, Mattie.

One time I was talking to one of the guys out here who raises heritage pigs, and he was bitching how he had one hog step off the side of the trailer and twist it's knuckle (ankle) at the kill shop. They wouldn't touch it because of the injury even though it happened right at the shop. I asked if that was normal or a little harsh, and he said it's normal, and proceeded to tell me about another place in the area that just got shut down and heavily fined after they were caught on video bringing in dead or injured cows with a forklift.

Since it's not wild game, you're probably screwed. Get a chainsaw and cut it up for dog food.

I'm thinking a mom & pop type butcher will do it for you. No need to take it to a DOA slaughter house. If you know a deer hunter ask him where he takes his deer to be processed. If they butcher deer that was killed off site, I'm sure they can handle a cow. Getting it there may be a problem though. Otherwise do it yourself.

Youtube is your friend.

For PERSONAL use any processing plant that does not process USDA meats can butcher these animals. It must be tagged/marked "NOT FOR RESALE".........just like a deer or pig would be at any processing facility.

I dunno...

Usually when I'd tell one of the .... bigger girls... she needed to go home in the middle of night, I'd at least give her cab fare. That way you don't have to worry about finding them frozen on your doorstep.

chubby chaser might be an exaggeration.

But everyone's been drunk and bored before.

It's the same excuse wheel's wife told her friends when they first saw her with that chubby little... catch.

Looks like the freezer will soon be restocked...

Sounds like 3 cows decided to do a pick-up game of hockey, and pulled a Pit Martin.

Pit Martin - (born 1943), Canadian ice hockey player, drowned after his snowmobile fell through thin ice in Quebec in 2008.

(yeah...I had to look that up) 😂

...must be Canadian Angus 😰

I feel like this is an appropriate time to make a joke about dave banging 3 big girls to stay warm during the winter storm.

I just can't quite find the best way to phrase it.
