Note: This has nuthin' to do with cussin'...... ;-)

I haven't in years and I can barely sign my name. My signature looks a little different every time I sign it.

Penmanship is a thing of the past - lost in part to the internet.

In the late 70s to early 1982, I taught high school (then realized I'd never make money, so I changed careers)

95% of students could execute decent cursive on their assignments, tests, etc.

Now, I substitute teach high school (and Jr. High, and some elementary to stay on my game).

When I receive hand-written work from the high school kids, probably 75 percent is printed.

Cursive is dying

My cursive deteriorated decades ago, when I started using computers......now it's a customized combination of printed letters and cursive, designed for speed

I still can write in cursive, but I rarely do. Most times it is print, with all caps.

Thanks for the synopsis, King. I used cursive exclusively (and yes it was usually a Sheaffer fountain pen- lol) til I was a freshman in catholic HS. Then I began to imitate a buddy's block style (w/BIC ballpoint) because it looked so much neater & legible, albeit slower- cursive flowed.

I still write in cursive to people on special occasions. Yes I am a FOG, but still think that there is no better way to show your appreciation or express your sympathy on special occasions. For these occasions I use a Schaefer fountain pen that I have owned for over 50 years.

Now everything is passwords you have to remember 100 different passwords it's freaking ridiculous they need to have fingerprint recognition on every piece electronic equipment that requires a password

I have a Schaefer PFM, Pen For Men with a snorkel to fill it. From the 50's. New old stock, never been inked. I've dipped it a few times for fun.

I carry a Montblanc 149 that's some 20 years old, mostly a signature pen but I'll write a note here and there, as you stated so eloquently, writing by hand is the way to go for a truly personal touch.

I"m a handwriting nazi, so YES, I can and do write in cursive. My print is actually italic. I'm fussy about my writing implements, too. I have a very nice Parker ballpoint pen that I got when I graduated HS a million years ago, and I picked up a Parker fountain pen on sale a couple years ago and fell in love with it. For day-to-day-I-guess-I-won't-have-a-breakdown-if-this-gets-"borrowed"-but-I-will-be-pissed, I keep a package of Pilot Varsity fountain pens and Papermate InkJoy 700 ballpoint.
