Disgruntled Kiss not the first band to tell the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to kiss off

Published April 10, 2014 •

Graciousness is not always high on the list of attributes you find in successful rock 'n' roll stars.

Because of this, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions have sometimes brought out the worst in its inductees, whether continuing once-private feuds in public or launching criticism at the hall itself. This year it's Kiss that's angry, its members upset over the organization's decision only to induct original members Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Peter Criss and Ace Frehley while excluding members who joined later.

As a result, the makeup-wearing rockers won't be wearing makeup or rocking at Thursday's ceremony at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn when they're inducted with Nirvana, Peter Gabriel, Linda Ronstadt, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens, The E Street Band, late Beatles manager Brian Epstein and former Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham, who also is boycotting this year's show over dissatisfaction with his role.

Film at 11.... 😟

Next to the SEX-PISTOLS rock and roll and that hall of fame is a piss stain. Your museum. Urine in wine. Were not coming. Were not your monkey and so what? Fame at $25,000 if we paid for a table, or $15000 to squeak up in the gallery, goes to a non-profit organisation selling us a load of old famous. Congradulations. If you voted for us, hope you noted your reasons. Your anonymous as judges, but your still music industry people. Were not coming. Your not paying attention. Outside the ****-stem is a real SEX PISTOL

It's funny if you think about it. Another group of middle aged guys arguing with each other. Deja Vu?

KISS has been relevant since about... NEVER. They had a couple of good tunes back in the mid to late 70's but beyond that they were a mediocre band at best. They should've left the makeup off and stayed in the bar/club scene. JMHO

I'm shocked, just shocked, to hear that something involving KISS has turned into a drama fest. Totally shocked.

Buckwheat.....you are WAY to generous.

There were bands from my high school and university days (one I roadied for) that absolutely would have blown away anything KISS ever did..............musically speaking.

Theatrics? promotion? marketing? management?........well that's something else entirely, and the KISS business enterprise was/is pretty dang good at that stuff.

They belong in the RRHOF and should've been allowed ASAP!

What we have here is a real boondoggle created by the RRHOF, not the band.

The band was willing to play...bring their stage...play with the 2 guys in the band now wearing the Spaceman and Catman makeup...then bring out Ace Frehley and Peter Criss and play a few songs with them too realizing this was what the fans wanted. Instead the RRHOF said no...Original 4 only...that all that going in the HoF too. I think it's a shame that a band that's still RELEVANT 40+ years should have each and every member up there to play (a couple are dead...RIP and have their families up there instead to represent them!) and included in this honor. They've made these exceptions in the past for other bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Grateful Dead. Eric Singer has been in KISS longer than Peter Criss ever was and Ace Frehley wore his Spaceman makeup with him in the band so what's the big deal?

KISS has influenced a slew of musicians and I implore some to just google. Some have even mentioned KISS in their induction into the RRHOF!

They've made a ton of hits and still have a knack of rocking. To be in your 60's doing what you were doing in your 20's on stage? That's a real dream come true. The fact that they're still headlining tours around the world and still recording are a testament to giving back to their fans. Having met several of the guys in the band personally, they are awesome guys and I've been very lucky to be at historic KISS shows throughout my life...I was there in Anahiem when they blew apart their stage. I was in Auburn Hills for the taping of one of their greatest tours ever (they weren't wearing make-up BTW!)

and to witness what the world was going to see on MTV...weeks before it happened in a rehearsal in Detroit for their MTV Unplugged taped show...we KNEW Ace and Peter were going to be there. They did it there first!

It's been a real long time coming and I really wish they would've let them do it THEIR way...it would've been better or that I'm sure.

If people thought this was a trainwreck...JUST WAIT till Deep Purple get their nod!

I'm not going to say he's AS good...but the man can play!

I Was Made For Lovin' You...he's throwing 16th down...FOREVER!

which reminds me....

That's some flat out gittin' on it basswork there.

Yet, it's the simple...

Seeing them still...all three...jamming out...it's KISS!

Gene can and does play a mean bass and I call him an inspiration to play one!
