It had already started receding when I got down there, but we got almost 11 inches of rain yesterday.

We had a bunch of volunteers at the Vets Hall 'sweeping' water out a back door. Big fans and large humidifiers running all night now also.

What a mess.

11" of rain? Damn......

I didn't even know it had flooded until I got down there Friday afternoon. The water was about 5 or 6 inches up on those support beams. I think it was about 6 inches deep inside the Hall. But, it was only about 3 inches deep inside when I got there.

Of course, by the next day all the extra water was gone and you mighta said... it rained yesterday? 🤦

Reminds me of my days on Miami Beach.

How often does it flood there?

Some of the 'old timers' around here said it was almost this bad once back in 2000. Others said they don't recall it ever being this bad. I don't recall any specific flooding issue since I got here in 2005.

Good thing it's the dry season!!

Back in 2008 I lived up on Roi-Namur. We had an ocean surge, not a rain event, where we got some flooding. I'll have to dig out my photos and videos of that. I have some photos from out towards one end of the runway that show the surge hitting the edge of the atoll and shooting up about 60 feet.

I think I read somewhere that here on this island it is more typically about 7 feet on the ocean side.

I've never visited the south pacific islands but have been all over the caribbean islands... I was amazed at how flat Barbados is... seemed like it should have been swamped lomg ago.... 🤔
