CW,
When I say "you" I don't mean "you" as in CW personally. I'm saying it as a manner of speaking. It gets lost in the typing instead of the speaking that we should be doing...face to face.
Now....
"What was the target on 9/11? What military target existed in Manhatten?"
The military targets were our Financial Center, our Military Headquarters, and supposedly our Government Offices (white house/capitol). The only thing I would've taken out in addition to those three if I were planning that attack would've been our Media Outlets.
How do you cripple the enemy? You first take away his communication, then his logistics, then his morale.
Had the folks that attacked us on 9/11 wanted to inflict mass casualities upon civilians as you say, instead of trying to destroy simply our financial center, our military, and our government, they would've waited until Super Bowl Sunday and flew all four of those planes into a stadium full of 50,000 Americans.......most likely very few foreigners or Muslims at the superbowl......but a great many die-hard, apple pie loving, Americans enjoying a DISTINCTLY American tradition.....the Superbowl. Now THAT would've been an attack on OUR WAY OF LIFE as Dubya claims 9/11 was (instead of the pre-emptive, well-thought out, surgical strike as it really was).
We use F-15's with missle's because we have and can afford them. We take out political, financial, and government targets with them.....and unfortunately a few thousand civilians die.
The Japanese didn't have good weapons like we did, so they flew their planes into our boats as suicide bombers.
The Al-Qaida (or terrorists as we call them, since they have no country to call home) didn't have F-15's like us so they used the best missles they could find. Airplanes.
9/11 was horrible, and many good people lost loved ones, and many good people were lost. It sickens me. Don't be so arrogant though as to think that OUR people that WE lost are any better than the thousands of people that have lost loved ones because of our careless attacks on THEIR country.
The Japanese caught us off guard at Pearl Harbour, because we assumed nobody had the balls to DARE attack the USA. We forgot that lesson, and the Al-Qaida soon followed suit and caught us off guard again. In both cases, he who says we shouldn't have seen it coming is lying to himself.
We carefully call the people we are fighting "insurgents" and "terrorists." Ever wonder why we don't call them "soldiers" "rebels," or "militia?" It's because the words "insurgent" and "terrorist" cannot be freely associated with a recognizeable Army, country, or military force, and therefore we as citizens don't "feel" that we are in a war with an opposing force, but rather we are under constant attack by "individuals" that have no rights under the rules of war.
We paint them to be not the enemy, but rather cruel parasitic animals. It helps to keep the war machine going when the enemy is a nameless, faceless, devil.
We pay propaganda experts millions to help folks see it our way. Lately it's been slipping though.
