I'm looking into buying one. I've never smoked a pipe but I plan on going to a local B&M to get some tips and make sure I don't mess up the pipe I do buy. I'm looking at a Savinelli. What are some warnings I should be aware of as a beginner with this pipe?

Tortuga or Clark are the two I'm trying to decide between

Take with you or ask for a pipe cleaner and run it thru. Other than that, Savinelli pipes offer a great value. Happy shopping!

if you've never smoked a pipe, you may consider smoking a cob for a little bit before you sink money into the hobby, especially a nice pipe... lots of cigar smokers can tell you they've tried it and just couldn't get into the pipe... just my opinion...

But I'm also reading that this might be the reason they don't like it. Kind of like basing your level of interest for cigars off of the 80 pack of churches for $90. (No ban hammer please).

Cobs smoke great don't be a jackass you azzhat....

It's more like buying a Punch Bareknuckle at your local to see if you like it. BEFORE you spend $1,000 on cuban cigars on ebay.

Lol. Yeah, but I'm also getting a deal where basically I'm picking up either one for $50 new. I figure if I don't like it can't I gift it to one of you dinkerellas?

I assume I'll need a cob or two and others of I really take to it anyways. Thing is this, breaking it in? Not burning the edges? Just questions I should ask me tobacconist?

good... stick with it for a couple of weeks.... you may end up loving it, you may end up thinking it's too much of a chore... I loved it at first... tough for me to enjoy it these days... if I have time to smoke, it'll be a cigar... that's just me though....

Very good advice.

I tried a pipe. Too much work for me. Didn't like all the tamping and other chores related to pipe smoking. Seemed to take away from, not enhance my chill time. Others really enjoy the experience. Luckily I invested less than $10 into it.

But, that's just me. YMMV

Yeah, it's novel. I'll take the advice and give it a couple weeks. Maybe when I'm alone. The kids were demanding my attention as was the pipe. I won't be giving up the cigars anytime soon.
