Last night I noticed we have Anchor Steam at the Vets Hall.

Never had it?

I don't know the style of beer, but steam beer is brewed and not aggressively cooled after the wort boil.

It's OK. Someone in the Maytag family started the brewery. Anchor steam refers to a fast method of brewing beer. If memory serves correct it was during the California gold rush in mining camps. Their original beer was done in the anchor steam method and still is.

The anchor "original" with the orange label is very good when fresh. Doesn't transport or age well imo.

Originally, the term "steam" refers to using lager yeast at ale brewing temps, that's about it. Nowadays, there is a bit more to it.

I'm not a beer aficionado but I liked Anchor Steam when living on California. Before the advent of micro breweries Anchor Steam was second only to Carlsberg Elephant in my book.

Those two beers couldn't be much different.

Anchor, as noted above, is good fresh..............then.............meh.

It's low alcohol as well........not a big deal.......but well......you know.....

Carlsburg Elephant is a freaking malt liquor...........or at least it used to be back in the day..............good too.

I've been drinking Kona Longboard Island Lager as the daily beer for a year or so. But when $12 can be scrapped together for a 6-pack of Anchor Steam it'll be purchased for a change of pace. Anchor Steam is a man's beer. Expensive, but pretty good. Sissy-boys probably won't like it (or just say they don't like it because of the cost).

Did a little reading. Edit on my 1st post. Fritz Maytag bought the brewery and saved it from closing. He no longer is the owner.

Had it while I was in San Fran. I give it an unemphatic Meh.

They were both a step up from the Country Club malt liquor my Father drank in professional quantities. Nothing like beer I have had from a local brewing club or several microbreweries beers I have sampled. 🤦
