...with the wife and kid.

She's said for years she would never go.

I just got home from 5 days in a tent trackside in Michigan last night. Today when I got up, I semi-jokingly asked if she wanted to go camping. She said yes. So in a mad scramble I reserved a full-hookup campsite about two hours away, hitched up my parent's camper (not pushing it with a tent) and started packing.

She's always said she would only vacation in a hotel. Last November I took her along for a race (GRM 2013 Challenge) in Gainesville FL and she was semi tolerant but we had a nice hotel room with separate beds and kid stayed with in-laws in Indy. Now she's agreed to go camping...

We have almost nothing in common, so when she goes along with my ideas, I always assume ulterior motives. Maybe she's starting to give in to my madness. We'll be gone for 4 days.

I'm already exhausted from my first trip, home for a day to knock out 5 days worth of chores. Reloaded the chickens feed and water, turned over the bedding, mowed the lawn, washed the dogs, and unpacked from my first trip. Repacked for the next trip and be leaving in 12 hours.

Time to relax with a glass of scotch and a cigar

Fantastic !

I had the same situation but in reverse,,,

For 12 summers we went camping with the kids in Colorado.Had a camper and all the stuff. The last time we wentt a bit earlier than usual, 1st week of June. The 2nd day there it snowed 13 inches. My Broad had a hissy...

She said she would never go again and wanted all vacations from that point to include sand, sun and room service...

Have a great time,,

I'm all packed. So at least my end is done. Two bikes, stroller, wagon, couple coolers of drinks and my clothes loaded in the camper. Kid seat in the tow vehicle (52' overall length!!!) and split a few chunks of fallen trees to stuff in the back of the truck. So I'm done packing for myself. We'll see what the wife has in store in the morning... Approaching this adventure very cautiously...

Dude!

Good luck! Here's a few tips:

1) Have coffee ready early every morning....

2) Make sure you have plenty of her favorite beverage.

3) Have fun.......you're gonna convert her into a camper! woot!

If she is anti-camping, condo-camping is the way to go! Not likely to make a fan out of her if she doesn't have a flushing toilet LOL! I've always been a roughing-it tent camper, but ya know...the older I get, the less I enjoy no A/C and having to dig a hole behind a bush!

Have a good time! I love camping myself not that I own a camper but I tag along whenever my sister uses hers. Nothing better then smoking cigars all day drinking beer by mid afternoon and a campfire after dinner.

Always enjoyed camping.

When we lived in VA my son was a scout. On one campout, I was responsible for cooking dinner. Without telling anyone in advance, I cooked a big pot of crawfish etouffee over the campfire. Everyone kept telling how good it smelled while I was cooking down the onions and such. Then I pulled out the crawfish tails. Most everyone looked at me like I was crazy. A few even asked if there was gonna be something else to eat. I cooked enough for everybody to have first, seconds and some thirds. All I had to do to clean the pot was rinse it out. Every cookout after that, I got volunteered to cook another pot.

Camped my whole life, as a kid growing up and as a family with my wife and two kids. My wife loved to camp and so did I. Started off tent camping and eventually bought a Coleman pop up after the kids were born. Sold it a few years back to a buddy who takes it to races....hope she has a blast so you all can do it again Dan!!! Camping IS like Apple Pie and Baseball if ya ask this 🌫 .....not that anyone did!

It's beautiful up there! Stayed in Blue Ridge but hung out down in McCaysville, GA quite a bit. Second year up there and we've decided that we'll be back next year also.

Full hook ups in a camper isn't really roughing it, so you should be fine as long as the beds are comfy.

Same here. Our camper has AC and 2 queen-sized beds. We take a microwave along too. But since we moved out into the sticks, we can have a camp fire any time we want AND flush toilets. And we don't have to keep the dogs on leads. We use the camper for the AC now since we don't have any in the house.

When the kids were little, we had this thing called a tent-in-a-box which was a 'camper' with a canvas tent-like roof. Had to be about 30 years old when we got it. Our friends called it the "Snack Shack" because the owners painted it red and white. But it had the benefit of having us sleep up off the ground....the only benefit!

We've had so much fun camping over the years. I hope she enjoys it!
