New to cigars; why does the wrapper on some cigars unravel when smoking.........usually the last half.

sounds like your smokes are under humidified

Yep ... that sounds like it to me too!

The quality of the cigar has something to do with it also ...

Too dry. Get some 50-50 in your humi and let those guys sit and soak for a few weeks. Mend the wrapper with a thin paste of sure gel (the stuff your grannie made jelly with) and distilled water.

Check your cut as well. If you're taking too much off the end, you might get an unwrap. Only cut to the shoulders at the most, but never past the cap.

I agree with - Rayder1 - check the cut!

The cut is only a factor if the cigar is dried out or too dry and vastly unhumidified! Of course cheap cigars will do this no matter the humidity!

Ditto to all ansewers plus a couple more.

However it happens to the best of them sometimes.

1.Use a little pectin. Dab some over the leaf with the tip of your finger and smooth it flat. No change in taste.

2. Sometimes if you chew gum or eat a piece of hard candy, just a quick lick over the loose piece will suffice. Be mindful of the flavour at the time. Coffee nips work well.

3. If you can, gently pull the piece off. It will change the taste a little. You can save all the pieces and roll your own. A few of us have done that before.

4. Leave the cello on. You'll see pretty colours!!

5. Masking tape. Not Scotch tape, it tastes funny.

6. Send the "bad" cigars to me and I'll dicipline them for you.

Finally, here in Boston we say "Shadup and Fahgehdaboudit"

Sometimes, if I make a crappy cut or get an unwrap, I chew on the end. Solves the problem.

I agree...even the best and best kept of them might unwrap a little, judging from the answers here.

A former president by the name of Clinton was having the same problem. He came up with a rather ingenious way of lubricating the wrapper before smoking to prevent such unraveling...
