Anybofy familiar with these? I saw some at Trader Joe's and just had to try them. It says they are from Taiwan? Can we get fruit from them?

Anyway all the pics I find show a pick to strawberry colored fruit. These are more brown and green. So I am guessing they are not completely ripe. I assume a brown paper bag will work to ripen these as well since there is nothing on the package with info.

Grabbed a fantastic Italian sammich as well. Asiago bread, peperoni, ham, genoa salami, cheese, green and black olives, pepperocini, with a cream cheese spread. No idea what the cheese is but very rich and creamy - not provolene or at least not like any I have ever eaten.

Its a chinese fruit, hard pit in the middle, very sweet with a very unique flavor. I am chinese and it has been a favorite growing up as a kid. The flavor may not appeal to some. My family (extended) used to have a farm in mainland china that grew these trees.

Lychees are fantastic. its like eating an eye ball with a pit (which is to be spat out)

Its available all over asia but predominantly a Thai fruit. They have other varieties too.

The range is from green to red to brown. Red being the optimal. The flesh inside the spiny skin membrane is translucent white. Brown spots indicate spoilage. Best eaten chilled.

so if they are brown and green with very little red do I ripen them in a brown paper bag?

Its highly improbable that you have unripe lychees. The logistics are just not possible.

Brown is the last stage of ripening. In other words they go from red to brown and not the other way around.

A friend's parents owned the only orchard in USA (FL).

Eat one.

If it taste good, then it is ripe enough.

You are not going to ripen them anymore.

They need absolute rainforest tropical climate to grow like that found in Thailand and the very southern tip of FL. True also of key limes.

You sure you don't have longans? Very similar, but a different fruit. Longans are supposed to be tan/brown.

I took some over to a girl I work with and she said they were lychee. There is some red and I just assumed they were going from the greenish brown to red not the other way. Very sweet, my oldest and youngest really liked them but the wife and other two did not.

Rachel's family loves durian as well.

The cheese in your sandwich was probably marscapone.

my wife does not care for them, but i like them fresh...the lychee cocktails and alcohol--not really my thing.
