"WASHINGTON – More than a half century of Cold War and lingering enmity came to an abrupt but quiet end on Monday as the United States and Cuba restored full diplomatic relations."

Fitting end to a policy that never worked except to the detriment of the United States. The problem now is that the Republican majority in Congress may not confirm any Obumo nomination to the post of Ambassador to Cuba. The only thing that would do is to enhance the popularity of a lame duck President whose prestige and popularity have hitherto, reached new lows.

Not the end. Unfortunately the travel restrictions and embargo are still in place. Congress is the authority that will decide on both issues.

I suppose the real excitement would be getting Cuban cigars. Although I’ve had quite a few, they are expensive and don’t really seem to live up to their reputation.
