http://abc30.com/education/kingsburg-student-called-scarf-girl-by-adults-for-wearing-hijab/1124511/

My little town is making the news this week...

Basically, a little Muslim girl decided after a couple Muslims shot up San Bernardino that it was very important for her to start wearing a hijab to school (really, her dad, who I went to high school with, decided for her)....

So she's wearing the thing and messing with it constantly all day... When it falls off during PE, the coach said something to the effect of, "hey scarf girl, either wear it or don't, but you can't quit running to mess with it"....

I guess I went to junior high at kind of a tough school... Our coaches were all body builders and if they had called any of us scarf girl, we would've been grateful for it compared to the usual things they called us...

Pretty sure her dad is just trying to cause problems and wants attention...

I give a ****... I'd rather not see our local school system sued because a Muslim kid is overly sensitive... And the coach will probably be charged by the DOJ for a hate crime since protecting Muslims seems to be our governments highest priority... Had it been a white girl wearing a scarf because it was cold not only would it not have made the news, the kid would've been forced to remove it...

has there been a lawsuit or has anyone been charged? if not then this seems a bit overly dramatic and the over reaction lies with you at this point

"The family attorney said they are not looking for special treatment or a payday-- they just want what's best for their daughter." I guess we just have to take their word for it until they show differently.

overly sensitive??? You're own local news link said "those words are offensive"

It isn't entirely clear if that's Lulu's characterization or the reporter's. Either way, the editor managed to leave them in there. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt; he was probably laughing so hard he missed that part.

You miss my point, this will only be news if the populous make it so. If they do not it gains no momentum. Though I will give you that the DOJ seems to have no interest in anything other than finding hate crimes, which to me seem illegal because they are double jeopardy.

Riiiiiiiight... Because everyone hires a lawyer when they aren't looking for a payday... We don't "have to take" anyone at their word... Actions speak much louder....

I really don't expect anyone to be charged, I said that tongue in cheek....

Pretty short sighted on your part to not be able to see that when someones first reaction to their child being called a name at school is to hire a lawyer that they intend to sue... You probably still believe clock boy is some kind of genius inventor... I mean, you have to take his word on it...

or you may be filling in blanks and may have different experiences than others.... im not sure I'm short sighted here, I just know if you fill in gaps in information with what fits your projection or mold you usually end up wrong.

I have a lawyer I consult and has spoken for me before and yet I've never sued anyone nor do I intend to..... it's nice to know people assume I will though.

will you fill us in when nothing comes of this or only if something does?
