I don't make many things for myself, I tend not to want to waste the time or materials. Usually my self-centered projects are shop furniture and tools, working pieces that are more needed than wanted. Still, I do enjoy making rings and it has been about four years since I last did one for me. So, I sat down, stood up, hammered, welded, chopped, and burned myself a little bit so I could make this thing.

That's a hand-shaped steel band with a slice of a railroad spike on top. The surface is hand-textured to look like some of the more pitted railroad spikes that I've come across.

Also, I bought a big box of railroad spikes. More ashtrays made of them will be posted soonish. Keep and eye out!

For those who saw the other ring-related post and are wondering, this isn't the engagement ring...
