When Obama was elected, we didn't see prime time sit coms with special episodes to explore peoples "feelings" about Obama becoming president.

Black-ish is a half decent program that did just this in regards to Trump.
They dropped the humor and spoke seriously about Michelle Obama's feeling of hopelessness.

Suck it up, snowflakes.
It's an election.
Someone loses every time, though you'd never know that from the nonstop mewling.

If they did the same when Obama was elected it would have been racist... duh.

I really like Blackish and had been considering posting about the show several times over the last few weeks.

As I watched tonight's episode, I kept thinking how easy it would be for many (here?) to dismiss it as liberal crap, but I think they, especially the star, actually were fair to the idea of opposition being respected. One needs to hang in long enough to tonight's episode to appreciate it.

It is normally a a very slick show with some great characters that live in the more realistic post-Cosby/Huxtable era of upper middle class black families who ar ealso part of the American fabric. If interested, I'd strongly suggest starting from the first show to better understand the characters...and watch out for Laurence Fishburn! He is spectacular.

I've liked many of Laurence Fishburns movies. I'd probably like this as well. But, as a rule I rarely what anything other than news and college football on the "networks."

Anth, there's no question Blackish has a strong lib bias, but it is realistic in today's America to portray a family like this one in that light.

However, they are able to transcend mere politics and are able to let the total of the family exceed the sum of the parts...or something like that. Characters are clearly individuals as opposed to typical network TV's token portrayal of black people...in my opinion. Though they do slip into comical satirical characterizations as needed for laughs.

Hey, I like it, you may yawn.

Now imagine if there was a show called "White-ish"???

Carl, I may be wrong but I think it's called Black-ish because so much of this family has nothing to do with common opinion of American Black culture, as if one could almost substitute any American family made up of people aspiring to attain the best of what this country offers. For sure, they are Black, but they are also whitish, brownish, or any ish that participates in America positively, while maintaining some of their original culture and simply adding it into the melting pot as a gift, not as a demand to be addressed.

In last night's Trump episode, the main character passionately stresses his love for his country...even when his country doesn't always love him back...he still loves it.

His father (Fishburn) explains to the teenage son that Grandfather and father are angry black men, but the grandson is not and they hope he never becomes like them in his heart...because he really can make it in America.

Maybe it's me, but I get lots of positives every week from this show, and I laugh with it.

Never seen the show and I refuse to watch it.

I don't watch it either but only because it didn't grab my interest. Haven't watched orange is the new black either but it has nothing to do with orange or black.

Kidding aside I could see a show called whiteish or something to the effect hitting the air and it could take a number of different paths.

It could be a serious drama or even intelligent comedy that depicts the growing fear of being marginalized, feeling unable to show our pride in our heritage without being labled a skin head, kkk or racist. It could also show how angst and uncomfortableness with certain politically correct postures could also be well thought out, based on life experiences, and not evil or ignorant at all. i probably don't do it justice but it is frustrating that one side of certain issues can be freely spoken about without getting castigated while the other side is supposed to sit down and shut up because of some perceived (or real) unfair privilege over hundreds of years that must be rectified. This part of our culture is toxic and people can justify absurd things by thinking they are on the right side and it's for the greater good. I actually think that is fertile ground for a very compelling show and you could give it a provocative title.

No one has exclusive rights to being 100% right, pure etc. We all would be better served trying to understand what others different than us think and why. We don't have to agree, but should listen and think, and not vilify. And that does not just mean the whites have to understand the various other races. It runs both ways. They do too. It's easy to see when the other guy isn't doing so, but you don't accomlish anything until you really look at what you are doing (as they should as well)
