-Who gets to decide when use of N-word (or some form of it) is or isn't 'racist' -- few high profile news items lately have me wondering....the two young Josh- athletes who used it in tweets as teens....my limited experience has been that a LOT of young people use the words without 'being racist' (IMO)...others probably figure they can hide their racism in the commonality of it...idk....Papa John dude..said it...but supposedly was quoting someone else, but may have been less 'questionable'....anyway, who gets to decide? For that matter, forget the N words.....the racist tag gets thrown out a LOT even without it...who's in charge of that?

-Who gets to decide the value of an individual life? .....the day care hanging got me thinking once again about value of life --- despite likely protestations, very few people will value every human life equally....some comparisons are likely obvious....but when it isn't...who gets to decide? Courts, oftentimes....docs sometimes....even insurance companies at times.... Maybe every person should be assigned a numerical value...might be fun...for a while?

-Who gets to decide which dumfuks end up on ballots? I can't remember the last time I went into a voting booth, looked at the candidates for any race and said "that's easy! He/she is a great choice"

I get that all too often it is some major 'news'/'media' outlet that decides for us....and that sux....if only because such a small percentage of the population appears able to think for themselves --- of course they aren't helped by the complete absence of balanced reporting ---

I used to just be a skeptical cynic...or maybe a cynical skeptic...now, I mostly just dislike people....not all of them....but a lot of them.

No real point to make....just in a pensive ranty mood

I am happier when I don't watch the news, especially local news. I am cynical enough at my age to think there is little I can do to influence the way the world turns. So I try to focus on my world. Because whoever those people are that get to decide rarely have my well being figured into the equation. It's all about them. So I just try to shut as much of that crap out and enjoy my surroundings, family, friends and critters.

Who gets to decide whether something said is 'hate speech'?

https://www.newsweek.com/new-jersey-radio-hosts-suspended-calling-sikh-attorney-general-turban-man-1043836

"Two New Jersey radio hosts were suspended and chastised by Governor Phil Murphy for using “hate speech” after they referred to the state’s attorney general as “turban man.”

Dennis Malloy and Judi Franco of NJ 101.5’s The Dennis & Judi Show called New Jersey’s Sikh Attorney General Gurbir Grewal “the guy with the turban” and “turban man,” singling out the religious garment worn on his head. Malloy and Franco were discussing Grewal’s recent directive to municipal prosecutors telling them not to pursue charges for marijuana-related arrests. The two briefly acknowledged the reference could be offensive, but Malloy claimed he was unlikely to ever remember his real name otherwise.

The radio station suspended the two from their show late Wednesday after Murphy labeled their comments “abhorrent and xenophobic” in a Wednesday statement.

“Hate speech has no place in New Jersey, and it does not belong on our airwaves," the Democratic governor said. "Station management must now hold the hosts accountable for these intolerant and racist comments.”

The Ewing-based WKXW FM radio station, New Jersey 101.5, issued their own statement Wednesday regarding the suspensions.

"We are aware of the offensive comments made by Dennis and Judi during Wednesday's broadcast," the station said. "We have taken immediate action and have taken them off the air until further notice. We are investigating the matter and will have further comment shortly."

Malloy defended his use of the “turban man” phrase immediately after making the remark, saying, “I’m never going to know his name. I’m just going to say the guy with the turban. Listen, and if that offends you then don’t wear the turban and maybe I’ll remember your name.”

Both Malloy and Franco continued their brief debate about the offensiveness of the turban reference, making a joke that Malloy could be called “baseball hat man.” Neither host has responded to their suspension as of Thursday morning, but Grewal, who was born to Indian immigrant parents in Jersey City, took to Twitter to criticize the radio hosts.

“My name, for the record, is Gurbir Grewal," he tweeted Thursday morning. "I’m the 61st Attorney General of NJ. I’m a Sikh American. I have 3 daughters. And yesterday, I told them to turn off the radio."

Hate speech? Turban Man? Really? The guy does where a 'turban'....or maybe it isn't technically a turban, but I'll bet every listener knew what they were referring to.
Possibly mildly offensive....but hate speech? LOL

Why can someone be found innocent of a crime and be charged for the same incident as a hate crime. Who decided this isn't double jepordy? Also, in the event you posted what happened to freedom of speech?

Hate speech, in most states, is determined by the categories of protected classes: gender, race, color, religion, national origin, ethnicity, gender identity and disability
