18 transgender persons killed this year alone.....

All by people who killed them because they hated the fact that their victims were transgender?

Is 18 a higher percent of their population than number of all people killed as a %?

This is an interesting question... from a math standpoint.

Raw numbers, it doesn't seem to be a higher percentage... you can find the % of transgender by state (Texas is actually second.... surprisingly)... get down to the total % of adult population... then back calculate to see if the # of deaths from that population is significantly different than the total population. It does not appear to be.

but then we get to other statistics regarding trans and the % of trans people who have been victims of violence (1 in 4) which is very high, given we know 1 in 4 americans aren't victims of violence. So I can't quite figure out why these numbers aren't matching up.

dunno about the percentages, but I don't think the percentage of trans people in the total population is all that high...18 killings of people solely because of their sexual orientation seemed kinda high...and given the anti-trans rhetoric by Trump and other institutions...wondering if there is a correlation

the accurate determinative number would be to compare the numbers of hate crime victims of other protected classes: Jews, blacks, whites, Muslims and their overall percentage of the population...but my level of concern isn't high enough to motivate me to look that up for you...be my guest...

Delta, could you cite some of the "anti trans rhetoric" from Trump?

I don't look for it, but neither have I seen it.
