The virus isn't going to disappear, the lockdowns are stupid and highly more destructive than the virus, but the control freaks keep prescribing the same failed flatten the curve policies and stupid masks that don't work, but the sheeple keep believing it like it was a magic spell that will eventually work.
There are only two paths to herd immunity, vaccines and infection. Assuming the vaccines are safe and effective for the most vulnerable to severe symptoms, then that would be the preferred path. For the rest, there is nothing wrong with natural infection which will be asymptomatic or will exhibit only mild symptoms in most cases as has been seen with this particular virus. Some people may already have immunity because they had another strain of corona virus previously which passed on immunity to COVID-19. Nobody knows for sure yet how that works with COVID-19.
When enough people have immunity, the virus has a hard time jumping to another vulnerable victim and replicating itself again.
