Systems that naturally change or evolve over time are dynamic objects with a lot of moving parts, I don't understand how you can how think about them in such black and white or otherwise static terms.

In 1905 he asked congress to return 440 Confederate battle flags in the possession of the War Department saying "We think it will be a graceful act of the Congress to return these flags"
The thought of tearing down monuments to the dead or erasing historic American symbols would have been unthinkable and barbaric.
