Immigration reform and border security would be addressed on the floor and legislation passed in about 20 minutes.

So what's held things up for, lets say, the last 20 years? I think it is more of a "hot potato" issue no politician wants to be on the wrong side of. Or, it would already be resolved.

They take the jobs that welfare recipients won’t do.

There is no wrong side of closing the border to illegal immigration.
There is no wrong side to stopping the tons of drugs coming across the border.
There is no wrong side to stopping the cartels from making millions on smuggling people into the US.

How there is any debate on these simple issues is beyond me.

Stogie, I think there are reasons that the border and immigration policy have not been fixed. The Republicans have a talking point of lack of border security. The Democrats have a talking point of lack of immigration reform. They both like that. Both issues have obvious solutions. 0 tolerance for illegal aliens. Send them back across the border as soon as you catch them. Change immigration vetting to a 3 month process, it can be done. Change the system to supply the actual needed low wage workers, and the rest are people who bring significant value to our society. Also, judicial/legal reform. Make the penalty onerous for people who hire illegals and people who harbor illegals.
