"...massive blaze at NYPD evidence station."

Unfortunately it looks like some firefighters have been hurt fighting this one.

A quote from the article: "Most of the contents inside are believed to have been damaged in the fire. "

It's NYPD, so not likely, unless the US Attorney's office/DOJ shared space there...

Anthony Weiner?

There just so many POS NY people that might have evidence in that building, but rest assured, they'll figure out a way to blame some old dude in Florida.

Hope no one innocent gets convicted and no one is convicted as a result of this- not being to able to use the destroyed evidence in defense.

PoPo generally doesn't take exculpatory evidence, no? At least not on purpose!

I would think that if the evidence was destroyed and couldn't be used to exonorate, it also couldn't be used to convict.

You should know very well that experts sometimes find exculpatory physical evidence after inspecting it.

I was recently taught that all cops are bad. They probably store the exculpatory evidence in a special building that burns up.

It's really nice to see the media not cover the BLM fires anymore.

right, but if the evidence is "all burned up" there's no inculpatory evidence to start with, so charges gone and no one is innocently convicted. What am I missing?

Not much.

Hypothetical example: Boy shoots a Woman there are three (supposed) witnesses who all testify the Boy did it. Boy denies it. Police seize the gun as evidence and arrest the Boy. it. As it turns out, the fingerprints on the gun belong to one of the "witnesses," who was the real shooter. Boy, who is innocent, doesn't get the chance to inspect and take fingerprints from the gun even though the state did. State's lab work is shoddy. The three witnesses all testify the Boy shot the Woman and he gets convicted...

Real life example: Lab tests blood of driver and charges with DUI. Lab evidence is destroyed. Driver is convicted based on cop's observations and road side testing alone. I was on that jury and we found him guilty.

(You have to have found stuff the other side didn't- right?
