Not surprising.
My kid is in that generation. The Participation Ribbons started when he was 6 or 7.
First one he received: Over the Moon Excited.
Second: Smiled, then handed it to Mom.
Third: He said
"These are supid. Everyone gets them."We did abuse him though.
We didn't buy him everything he wanted. When he got old enough to ask
why and understand the answer the song would remain the same.
Why can't you have that? Because your mom and dad made poor educational decisions when we were young, we have to be smart with how we spend our money. If you want to work, make your own money and buy stuff you want, I'm happy to pay you. That of course was also Abuse because
Other kids get an allowance for nothing. Yep. See prior messaging on your parents poor choices.
He started working. Made money. Had responsibilities. All on a good path.
Then there was more Abuse.
All of my friends have phones and I don't. Was tempted to tell him to find Mormon friends.
He was in the last 25% of kids to get a phone. And when he did, he got a Motorola.
All of my friends have Iphones.See above messaging about your parents decisions and me being willing to pay you for working.Fast forward six years, he's got a degree, is motivated, has his own investment portfolio started, knows what he wants to do. He's been working outside the home since he was 14.
Many of the people who either grew up with him or roomed with him in college are aimless, depressed and have unhealthy levels of anxiety.
You reap what you sew.
