Wife told me right after I got up this morning "we're completely out of meat" I had to check the freezer myself and sure enough, just one chunk of brisket and one ham steak in the milk crate where I keep my meat.
Had to go get kerosene and propane so I checked sales ads for the grocery stores in the area. Ground beef was "on sale" for $6/lb at one store, $3/lb at another, and $4/lb at the third. So I went for the $3 place. All sold out. But had tenderloins and butts and chickens on sale so I got some of that stuff. Went to the $4 spot and tried to check out with 20lbs of ground beef but the cashier says it's limit 10lbs anything over I gotta pay $7.50/lb. I asked if it could just be split across two receipts. She says no. So I put it back and while doing that I saw chuck roasts were $4/lb with no limit so I got 10 lbs ground beef and 15 lbs of chuck roasts to grind myself.
Bought 60 some lbs of meat today.
Threw a dozen chicken thighs and two pork butts in the smoker. I'll portion those when done and freeze them.
While I'm at it I think I'll brave the Saturday crowds and pick up a brisket from Costco. But I'll wait till the end of the day closer to closing time when they're not as busy. It's still bad, but not as bad as mid day when you gotta make several laps around the lot just to find a parking spot.
