On a dark night at sea anything is possible. The area this happened is highly congested but yes the Skippers career is probably over.I would think a few other heads will also roll.........such as the OOD, the JOOD and downhill from there. That being said I have only been on the bridge of an at sea aircraft carrier once.........completely different look than the small destroyers and frigate I rode, must've been 12-15 people on that bridge not the 5-6 I was accustomed to.

Nope... sorry, pal... they've got eyes on everything around them. Doesn't matter how dark it is, they look at a scope and see EVERYTHING and know exactly where everything around them is going. If there's even a question... they get on the radio and ask for intentions. Many of these tankers are larger than carriers and harder to maneuver.

Skipper is DONE. He may as well submit his retirement request. Even if he was asleep at the time... it's his ship, and his responsibility. The OOD, Navigator and the CIC watch officer are in trouble as well.
