Poll Question: Sloppy Joe, Manwich, or Store Brand of the Slop

As a child my parents didn't make them but tried them at friends' houses. Thought they were OK.

Had some in college (on a budget) and they actually were kinda yummy. Maybe (likely) I was drunk and/or high at the time.

Bought a can of Manwich on a whim for old times sake today while grocery shopping. Impulse buy without any mind altering substances.

Which would you pick? Sloppy Joe, Manwich, or Store Brand of the Slop?

Had a lot of Mannwich as a kid... loved it then, hadn't had it in 2 decades so we tried it about a year ago and damn, it was cross... sooooo sweet which is prob why i liked it as a kid.

we make our own as its not a lot of ingredients and only takes about 5 minutes longer then the can.

Not very often but when I do there's more meat and less sauce.. also served open faced on a slightly toasted bun covered with provolone... and with a jalapeno... 😟

They used to serve that to us in grade school until it was ruled a violation of the Eighth Amendment.

Thinking of back in my college days, there was a carry out restaurant that made something similar called "made right" - ground beef in a sauce on a hamburger bun. Not bad for a quick snack or lunch when living in a dorm. Later in an early job there was a Dairy Queen we used to go to that had something similar to that that we occasionally had for lunch.

Occasionally my mother makes it. She does it homemade. I eat lunch with her bout every work day. She retired and likes making lunch. So I’m cool with free homemade lunch daily. Think it’s ketchup mustard little brown sugar and some spicy like red pepper flakes and I’m sure a few things I never notice. Mom loves me

I make my own sloppy joe "mix"..
Brown burger,
Chop celery and onion super fine..
I add one big ? Can of Delmonte? Or HUNTS ? I THINK ITS HUNTSspaghetti sauce
,( specifically the garlic and herb flavor)...
It seems to be way better than manwich or sloppy joe can / powder mix..

I'm open to try make your own recopies. Please share them. The can of Mannwich was an impulse buy ($1 a can, not much to lose).

I like Drafer's suggestion. More meat, open face toasted buns, provolone and slices of a jalapeno. I might have to go with some cherry peppers since I think I'm out of jalapenos (didn't do pantry inventory before shopping).

On a less then spicy note, maybe some dill pickle slices (I'm a fan of dill pickles rather then that sweet pickle stuff) or some cucumber slices for a fresh garden crunch (I'm also a fan of cucumbers).

I'm making this up as I go along and willing to experiment.

I'll prolly make some Sloppy Joe this weekend with a side of waffle fries or some steak fries or some tater tots. As you can tell, on the weekends, I set the bar high for personal accomplishments.

sorry, but I'm a messy eater and had to give up drippy sandwiches, even when wrapped in a wax paper envelope...ruined too many T-shirts eating sloppy joes, tortas, pulled pork, chopped brisket, etc

But I liked the Sloppy Joes more than Manwich when I ate them...more than 50 years ago...

I recall having them once at a friends house, not memorable.

I'm with you. I'm not a fan of sloppy, drippy sandwiches. The fillings gotta hold their own and not squish out of the bun.

I could go for a nice cheese burger with sliced onion, lettuce and pickles right about now. Toss on a few slices of bacon and I'm sold.

I eat sloppy joes with a fork. Yeah there’s no keeping those things together

Wife has her own recipe.
Ground beef, onions, other things, with a few shakes of Chohula.
I like hers. The store stuff, I don't care for.

Same, never on a bun for me, usually over rice or with some corn chips.

Molasses is the other ingredient. Moms made it for the whole crew the other day for lunch.
