Last year we had some paper hornets create a nest in the house overhang. I sprayed the nest with hornet spray.

Hopefully they don't return. They are territorial so if there is a nest in the area, they will find another place for home.

Anyone tried to make a fake wasp/hornet nest? I read that a brown paper bag with some newspaper will simulate a nest and they will look for another place to make a nest.

Thinking of 3D printing one of these to simulate a wasp/hornet nest and hang it up to tell them to go find another place to go.

Any advice?

I didnt even know making a fake nest was a thing. Cool link though.

We only have a few small wasp nests around the house during the warmer months. I take em out bf they get big.

My main enemy is ground dwelling yellow jackets. I burn them out with gasoline @ night.

Didn't find as many of them last year, but the first few years here I burned out 2 to 4 per year.

When I was a kid, I saw "bees" coming and going out of the ground. I was prolly about 5 yrs old. I sat and watched them. Then I started throwing pebbles at the entrance/exit holes. Shoved a few little rocks into the holes to block them.

Long story short... I ran to my grandma's two houses away while they chased me. I got about a dozen of hits from them. I'm not allergic to their stings, thank God, but it was a lesson learned. If bees, hornets wasps are coming out to the ground, do not throw rocks at the nest or try to plug the hole. They will retaliate.

1 human vs a swarm of stinging insects... human will lose.

I use to own a residential window cleaning service. We regularly, symply used wasp/hornet spray that shot like 10' to 15'. The thing about that particular type of spray is that the stream knocked down hornets and wasps instantly. They fell from the nest onto the ground dead. I think the brands were Black Flag and Raid.

I hate being stung so badly that I used to immediately quit my workday if I got stung. Only one time time exception was when I got hit slightly above my upper lip, but was able to put crushed benadryl into the wound to prevent swelling and pain.

Don't try to plug the hole........

That's what she said.

Back when the wife and I were dating. I mowed over a ground nest. She got me to stop cursing long enough to break open a cigarette, wet the tobacco, and press on the stung areas. Pain stopped. No real swelling. I'm pretty sure she's a witch

I have a couple bottles of that. I call it "the rifle" wasp killer. Good for long range.

I also have a bottle of "the shotgun". It sprays a wide mist. Use it for when they're close and the pressure in the rifle can would be too much...

I hate yellow jackets and will follow them to find their nest and kill them after dark. White tail hornets and I are friends and their nests are not abused - no problems they move every year and I have yet to be stung by one - even when I bumped into a nest once or when I rescued one from water. In the last few years I've had a helper that digs up yellow jacket nests (guessing a bear) before I get to them.
