How about a list of really bad cigars for newbies to stay away from? Besides lone wolf and diesel....

One mans trash is another mans treasure as they say ... the problem is in deciding what IS a bad cigar ? Lone Wolfs, for example, are enjoyed by many ... I don't think they're a BAD cigar, just not a good one ... I think they're a waste of time, effort and money because they are completely tasteless and unsatisfactory, but others like them just fine ...

I think one of the worst cigars I ever tried was an HdM Excalibur 1066 Merlin ... do you have any idea how many guys would argue to the death with me about that and say it was one of their favorite smokes ??? They'll be chiming in soon and ripping me for saying that, you wait and see ... and THATs the problem ... individual taste is just that ... individual ... some of my favorite smokes are disliked by others but I don't let that get in the way of MY enjoyment, anymore than my dislike for some of their favorites gets in their way ...

Best thing for any new cigar smoker is to try a lot of different cigars ... remember what you like and what you don't ... then smoke what you like ...

lone wolf gets bad raps. they are ok, so are the bad frogs.

i was given a sample of don something by a rep once at it was horrible. since i can't remember the rest of the name, i steer away from any cigar that starts with don. i know that is not fair to all the good dons like corleone, and rabbi "don" schwartz, but as a "walking talking, bitter old man" but what the hell do i know.

I disagree with diesel being "bad" cigars, I like them after sitting in my tupperador for 6 months. I find them when first purchased are very green, and need some aging. The construction and draw have always been very nice.
My point being, don't knock em till you try them, especially sticks that cost a buck a piece.

Steve, I can't believe you hate Excalibur 1066's. You must've got a bad one. They are great...

SteveS, I don't care for for the Excaliburs or the 1066's. However, the regular HdM line-up is outstanding and their double maduros/oscuros represent a remarkable value. Perhaps, their marketing people felt that they needed to refresh their market presence with more upscale offerings. At least they had the sense not to mess with the old Hoyos. As per another post, the ISOM Hoyos are, IMHO, among the world's best.
My heresy is to think that Montecristos are overrated. I feel about them as you feel about the Lone Wolfs. Just nothing special there for me. Didn't make me puke though.

Lone Wolf's smoke fine, I just don't like the after taste. This is what I mean by a bad cigar, one that make you want to gargle after smoking.

I like 5 Vegas, no bad after taste. I like Hoja de Nicaragua in the Consul size, but the Churchill size left a bad taste.

Won a tin of the Cuban Honey's (vanilla) recently. They're coated in sugary crap that completely ruins the tobacco. Wow are they awful!! If you enjoy cigars the way I do (and I like lots and lots and lots of different kinds), avoid these --- 'caveat emptor' almost enough to make you sick to your stomach. YECHH!!!!!

I avoid flavored cigars of any and all types ... I have two flavoring jars that I can use to flavor my own and have found the results to be FAR more subtle than those that come pre-flavored because the process infuses an already good cigar with the aroma and flavor of cognac or brandy or whatever one chooses to use ... MrsS likes cigars I've flavored for her and so do some other folks, but I don't ... I prefer my cigars to taste like tobacco ...

Flavored tobacco of all types seems to me to be an inferior product that is heavily masked by the heavy handed method used by most manufacturers ... the end product is not one I would like if it were not flavored and flavoring doesn't change that ... it serves only to make it "icky" ...

I've got a couple wolfs lying around to see if anything good comes from age.

I really dislike Hamilton House.

I like 5 Vegas but I really hated the 5 Vegas Pyramide. I don't know what happened there, but I think the shape affected the taste.

I haven't tried Diesel yet, but it is on my "to do" list.

The Wolf jumps up and is really bad!
