oh, and btw, Mr_Reddoch ... given the particularly spam-prone nature of Yahoo, you (and in all truth everyone else whether you use Yahoo or not) are well advised to take a little extra precautions when posting your e-mail addy on a BB such as this one ...

Spammers have robotic software in place that "crawls" through BBs and chat sites, looking for e-mail addies ... these bots "recognize" e-mail addies by the @ and . symbols .... you can effectively preclude such automatic recognition by using (at) instead of @ and (dot) instead of .

AND, if you DO get some spam, you should never open it and you should ESPECIALLY never respond to it, not even to say 'take me off your list' ... opening it will confirm your addy as a 'live' one to a great many of them who have software in place to detect the addies of those who open messages, but writing back will confirm you as being 'live' to ALL of them

I was about to say "a word to the wise", etc but I guess that's quite a few words ... still, it's something to take into account ...

I've been using Yahoo for my 'extra' email box for years ... and I have never had a problem with replying to the 'remove me' and getting great results.

I am usually removed ...

Sure, I get the occasional 'spam' ... but before I ask them to remove me, I also click the 'This is Spam' and both the 'Block Address' and 'Report Message' boxes.

What 'spam' I do get ... will go directly to the 'bulk' box ... which I never open anyway, and I just empty every week or so ...

Basically, what I'm saying is ... I get very little email that I don't solicit in my 'Inbox' ...

Slim ... you do get more spam after opening it ... that's a fact of life on the Internet ... but it sounds as if you don't SEE it because you're directing it to a bulk e-mail box where that sort of thing is landing ... only legitimate companies will actuall remove you upon request ... spammers will add to your load ... a bit like an old friend of mine who was a door to door salesman and targeted homes with "No Solicitors" signs on them ... he said they put the signs up because they didn't know how to say "NO" otherwise ...

Nope ... in fact, get very little, even what goes into my 'Bulk' box, when I ask them to remove me. I will receive maybe three or four a day, at the most. I have two 'anonymous' email accounts, one at Yahoo, and one at Hotmail.

How you are most likely to get on the 'spamming' lists ... is the 'free' sites that ask you to register, and many are not porn sites, either. The junk email you get will tell you that you are receiving this email, "because you opted-in to periodically receive emails with special offers from blah-blah-blah.com."

The bad part is ... once you register on one of these sites, your email addy is sold to ... who know how many sites ... many compile CD-ROMS just for this purpose!

I basically ignore my Hotmail account, only check on it every month to keep it active. I have done nothing with this account ... and it is loaded to capacity every month with 'crap'. I don't even use it to send email ... and somehow ... the 'spam-bot' has found it anyway.

It's not like it use to be ...

Most ISP's and 'email servers' are getting wise to the spamming, and have many 'interceptors' put in place. You just have to make sure you use them ... and believe me, they do work!
