gt- doesnt matter if the boxes are open or shut, the humidity will equalize throughout your entire humidor.

Ditto the above; humidity will "seek out" your cigars unless they are in an air-tight container away from the humidification device. Cello on/off (dead horse), slide lid boxes; doesn't matter. If they did, they would ship this way from the manufacturer and sit at your local tobacconist for months on end. Cello and boxes protect your cigars, thats it. Humidity levels will equal out in time.

tarheel4lyf is correct. you can't just go around and close threads.

we haven't heard from the guys that store the boxes on the end so the moisture goes to the head of the cigars, leaving a dryer foot for lighting. bet you didn't think of that.

what about the guys who rotate the boxes in their cooler chests, making believe they want equal moisture distribution, when they are just trying to decide whether to bid on a another box of the same cigars if they only have 3 full boxes left.

i rest my case, open, like tarheel4lyf.

Doesn't matter whether the plastic is off either. If the plastic around the box is not airtight; humidity will find its way in. The plastic is not an air tight wrap around the box, the box is not airtight and the cello on the cigar is not air tight. Sorry for the dead horse posting! Unless your cigars are completely airtight away from your humidification device; HUMIDITY will find and coddle your smokes and keep them happy.

Open again. What if boxes are different sizes? Should you put larger boxes on bottom or top? Will it make a diffence if the boxes were put in upside down? And now for the really serious question. Should boxes be opened real slow or real fast? Which way would least disturb the even humidity that has been attained over time?

if put the small ones on the bottom and the larger ones on top, it will look like you have more cigars.

as far as opening the boxes, i tried opening the boxes in a large clear plastic bag,with the end closed tight, and sliding the boxes out and then returning the humidity contents from the plastic bag back into the cooler chest. it's a pain to do it that way, but it works. it really works.

...damn Rick, I thought I was the only one that did that trick! You also need to be careful when you open your coolerdor, sweater box or what have you, so that you don't let the dark out for too long; get in there, get what you want and get that lid shut quickly; the dark works with humidity and letting light in screws it all up!

JD, to avoid the light problem, I keep my humi's in a "dark room" like a photographer. When I am in there, I hang a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the outside of the door so my wife doesn't open it to let light in.

I also do the plastic bag thing BUT... I also wrap myself in plastic so my clothes do not absorb any humidity from my cigars. Looks like I have a HAZ MAT suit on !!! Maybe I should look into buying one.
