Heading to Vegas soon, my first air travel since the heightened security. Do I have any chance of getting my guillotine or punch cutter thru security? Any suggestions or comments welcome, either here or at [email protected]

thanks,

I'm leaving for Fla. in the morning. Just to be safe, I'm packing my cutter and lighter in my suitcase that will be checked. I've heard some people say that security DOES take them.

Pack in your suitcase. They will take it. They took mine. If you want to try, though, bring and envelope preaddressed and stamped for your home. That way, if they take it, just say 'can I put it in here and have you mail it back?,' and they will. That's what I did. They were happy to oblige, and I got to keep my nice cutter.

I meant if you want to try taking as carry-on item.

You definitely want to pack them in checked luggage.

Don't even think of carrying a bullet cutter!

They're pickey about those kinds of things. They don't like lighters either. I thought it was a bit overboard myself the last time I flew (appx 1 month ago). By the time they were done I had to ask if they found any pollups...

Eggman:

Searched the boards since I remembered seeing this topic recently. Here's what I came up with:

Eggman, I can't tell you how many lighters I'll had taken by airport security (and they usually just slip them in their pockets!)

On my carry-on,they also made me pour out a flask I had filled with good Scotch...sigh. A bottle of Champagne was OK though. Just about every vendor in the casino's has a cutter you can use. It's just a PITA. X

I was just in Vegas last weekend and took one of those rubber coated punch cutters on my keychain. I put my keys in the tray thru security and had no problems. If nothing else, just buy a cheapo in vegas, leave it there, and consider it a cost of traveling.
