When looking at diff. brands, I sometimes see the term "Varnished" and "Unvarnished". Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated.

The boxes they come in are varnished or unvarnished. If the cigars are put into the box before the varnish settles down, it imparts a flavor that is not desireable. The varnish does make the box look pretty, and seals it.

Varnished and unvarnished Partagas 8-9-8s, for example, are also different in size and flavor as well as the varnished or unvarbished box they come in. The 8-9-8 refers to the number of cigars in the bottom-middle-and-top layers in the box. Both are packed in that fashion. Everyone seems to like the varnished Partagas better, except Slimboli, who doesn't like anything with Mexican tobacco in it. I like both, tho.

Partagas 8-9-8 varnished, is my taste! Did not care for the unvarnished. I guess to know the difference buy both and smoke one behind the other.

Sorta like, "Wax on, wax off"...hmmm...the wax off part reminds me of another thread, lol...

Light the varnished ones before they dry - it's spectacular! When my lip grafts heal I'm going to try it with a light walnut stain.
