Just speculation mind you, I have not tried this but may. There is much debate about "the cut" and therefore, the cutter. Even a good cutter gets dull over time and tends to smash the head (ouch). Why not cut the head with a damn butter knife? Turn that baby around (oh yeah, who's your tobbacconist! WHO'S YER TOBBACCONIST!) and endulge (dare I say it?) a foot fetish? Light the head? In which case, who gives a rats fanny if it's a nasty cut. And you would surely have the best possible draw? Has anyone else considered taking a ride down the muddy road? Curious.

Isn't a capped cigar designed to smoke from the cap end? Else why a cap at all? Then you would likely use a V cut in the middle and burn your cigar at both ends!

I was under the impression that the leaf has different flavor characteristics down the length of the leaf. Part of the 'blending' being the orientation of the leaf. This obviously would not be an issue on a lesser, one dimensional cigar, but could possibly affect the experience of a more complex cigar?

Redsquid is theoretically correct. Rollers are often instructed how to bunch the filler so the cigar has specific taste characteristics as it burns. Once the binder and wrapper have been applied, it's hard to know if the directions have been followed. With a mixed filler cigar, it's irrelevant. Even the finest cigar will unravel if you smoke it upside down. When your cutter grows dull, cut the cap before removing the cello. It sounds peculiar, but you will get a clean cut.
