Just got my box of the Predators that were the blowout special a couple of weeks ago. Opened the box and several of the cigars were moldy (not plume). Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I am going to see if this is something that I can handle without going to the trouble of contacting customer service. For $15.50, it is hardly worth it.

osage,
I recieved a box of gars last week with mold on them. I called Steve directly and was given an option for exchange right away!

Hmmm,,, 3 cases of mold in one week???????

Maybe C-bid has a problem with their storage facility?
Ive been here for awhile and this is the first gars I have ever had a problem with.
Just seems like a rash of moldy gars lately with the mayorga maddies the other day and now a box of predators, and mine where cabanas.

I just got a box of robustos today. The box itself was oily--and I mean glistening in spots, almost dripping. I wiped it off, pulled out a cigar, and there were some mold spots on the foot. Put the rest in a ziploc--no way were those things going in the box with my premiums! I think I'll give Trish a call tomorrow. She's always been more than helpful.

Ah, a mere 18 subjects later, and it may not be mold after all, merely bloom, plume, gloom, or some oom other than doom. I think I'll still call about the oily box, tho. I've been smoking primarily mail-order cigars for two years and I've never seen anything like that until now.

Rick,
Mold is very easy to tell from Plume! If you have a magnifying glass look close if its hairy its mold!

And color has nothing to do with it! The box of cabanas that I got had mold that was pure white. I thought it was plume at first. I looked again with my daughters magnifying glass and sure enough it was mold.

I even took some macro pics of the mold. Didnt post them due to respect for Cbid but thet are very ugly pics!

Maybe the problem was in the actual shipping and not storage. I'm sure UPS and the post office aren't as conisderate of the delicateness of cigar as C-Bid is

rck_1 and Cigarick, the white stuff is definitely hairy and the actual box looks like it was dropped in maple syrup. When i took the wrap off the box, it looked like sap had come out of the wood. You both seem to have had similar experiences. I was just going to try to wipe em off and smoke them, but they don't really smell that good to boot! Guess I will go the customer service route.

I received my box a couple of days ago. No problems and the cigars were in great shape. The flavor is nothing special, but the prices was right!

Sap coming out of a cedar box is not all that uncommon. Remember the Macanudo Vintages in coffins had this problem a couple years back. The sap is very thick and sticky. But the cigars are cello wrapped, it shouldn't be a problem. If the cedar sap gets on the cigar itself, you gotta toss it or send it back.

Mold is a totally different problem. If it's just mold on the cigars wrapper, it can be brushed off and the cigar is still smokable. But the conditions that allowed the mold to form on the wrapper are the same that would let mold form inside the cigar. Take a look at the foot. An sign of mold on the foot and the cigar can't be salvaged.

Good luck!

I too recently received a box of smokes however they didn't have any mold but a serious stench of amonia. CBID claims it's not their warehouse it's the manufacturer. Replacement box not in stock. Getting a refund. That sucks!!!

I got and returned my 2 boxes. Problems....you bet:

1. They were boxed in regular cedar boxes...not spanish. As a result they stank of cedar. I could not even but the boxes in my humidor they stank sooo bad.

2. The boxes were still wet with finish or oil.

3. One box came sealed, one did not.

4. They smoked like crap.

These were definately reboxed product and not the value claimed. I'm willing to bet it was mold and not bloom you saw.

Finally got around to contacting customer service after taking a look at the sticks under a microscope. Definitely mold. The Predators even smelled odd--not quite like ammonia, but sure not good. Some Flor de Filipinas were bad from the same shipment. At least I didn't dump them right into my beautiful, big new burlwood humidor before looking at them closely! Awaiting an answer from CBid...
