I don't remember seeing any discussion around what we all use for ashtrays. I am currently using one I got here at CI which is made of clay and has four "holders". It works pretty well but is not very wide and my longer cigars don't always stay put. I have used the type of cigar ashtray that has the long slot and is generally made of ceramic. I find the problem with these is that when its cold (well here in CA it would more appropriately be cool) outside and the hot cigar sits on the cool ceramic I have sometimes had the wrapper crack.
I am always looking for cigar ashtrays when out shopping or traveling but besides high priced cigar shops I have had little success and wonder why more types are not generally available. I did get one at a 50's retro type shop but it fell and broke.
Just wondering what you all are using and where you may have seen cigar type ashtrays.

I use the patio for ashes, then sweep when I get in trouble... Toss the butts in a jar with lid. Toss the jar in trash can...because I got in trouble with tossing the butts in the yard and the dogs dragging them into the house...

I hold it for the most part so a fancy ashtray is not necessary...

I have a ceramic catfood bowl that just happens to be a great size for cigars. I originally bought it with my cat in mind, but when I brought it home it seemed to be much more useful as an ashtray.

I use a cigar ashtray my mother-in-law gave me as a gift. She got it in Mexico I think. It's oblong, with room for a gar on either side of the main dish. Low and pretty redish stone.

My lawn gets all the ashes. Makes for a greener grass. I have an old "Sands Casino" ashtray that gets the duty when needed. Nothing fancy here. Being relegated to smoking on the patio or front porch leaves me with a lot of options.

Empty 6oz yogurt cups, or planters peanut can. They come with snap tight lids for the smell if they don't get emptied. Then dump ashes and stubs in the compost heap.

I always hold my cigar or hang it out of my gob. Never have time or reason to lay it down!

Hey Slim,

I am waiting for you to please jump in and solve this problem. As we speak, I am asking a co-worker to tie my hands behind my back, so I will not be tempted to say no more.

Robby where are you???????????????????

LOL

I usually hold my smokes too. I like to admire them. When I do put one down, I want something pleasant to look at. I have a brass rectangle ashtray. It is stamped with a scene of 2 hunting dogs. It has a holder for 1 cigar. $15. I like it!

Sam ...

For a surprisinly decent utilitarian cigar ashtray, let me recommend Big Lots to your attention ...
for a buck apiece, I got several cigar ashtrays that are quite functional ... not exotic or exquisite, mind you, but utilitarian function ... however, I found a very nice single cigar ashtray there for less than $5 incl tax ... no foolin' ... this is a heavy, crystal appearing ashtray about 3.5 inches at the wide end, tapering to about 2.5 at the narrow end with a well for the ashes in the wide end and a long cigar rest slot that runs from the well and opens out through the narrow end ... if I see another, I'll pick it up for you ... but you must have one of these stores up your way ... check it out.

Since I am allowed to smoke in the back room with the computer,(thank you dear)and have a double exhaust fan in the window I use one of those ashtrays with the "suck" fan in it. Although I don't set the 'gar down very often it makes my other half happy. And when she is happy the ashtray isn't the only thing that....OH NEVER MIND!...69

I've got a variety of ashtrays but I have two that I use most frequently. The first is one of those cheap plastic things that has room for two cigars with the bowl on the middle. It's been dropped a few times and has a couple chips broken off. The other one is a small fish-shaped brass dish. I'm sure it was intended to be just a decorative piece but when I saw it, I automatically thought ashtray.

My favorite cigar ashtray is a crystal one that belonged to my grandfather back in the 30's. It has his monogram in the bottom. Fortunately, our initials are the same. It has a lot of sentimental value to me.

Outside on my deck ... I have a large square redwood planter box (on castors) that I built for a 'genetic dwarf' peach tree (never gets any bigger than three feet) that always has really sweet full-sized peaches on it every summer ... the box is about 3 feet high.

... on top of the soil (for decoration), I have lined it with large (multi-colored) river rocks that I gathered from the American River, near Coloma (Where John Marshall discoverd gold at Sutter's Mill and started the California gold rush) ...

... when I'm not holding or smoking my cigar, I just place it between two of the rocks in the planter box.
