TW - Although I know you're just teasing, I will reply!
They are overrated. There is no doubt they are overrated. The same way Opus X is overrated. Reason being, people don't realize that Cuba is no different than the Dominican, Honduras and Nicaragua, and makes bad cigars as well as good ones.
If it's Cuban, you will like it, because Cuba makes the best cigars. Now that is just ignorant. Nobody makes the best cigars. It's a matter of preference, and most people who claim to smoke Cubans only get ripped off by some shop owned in Canada or Cancun, or their "friend's brother Tito that rolls in the Partagas factory." But, like the Opus X, they smoke it because of the band, and pretend its the best thing since sliced bread.
Cuba makes PLENTY of bad cigars, as does every other cigar making country, all of which make fantastic cigars. There is nothing like a good Cuban. There is nothing like a good Nicaraguan. Etc, etc.
If you enjoy the flavor of an authentic Cuban...that's fantastic. If you prefer this flavor over cigars of another country, fantastic. However, your opinion or preference doesn't make them better than any other cigar. Nor does the opinion of Cigar Aficionado, or any other rating magazine out there. It simply makes them better for you.
Do I enjoy the flavor of a good Cuban cigar? Yes. There are some Cuban cigars that are unlike any other cigar on the planet. Do I hold them on a pedestal above my other favorites from other countries? No. They're all good, special, and unique in their own way, which makes the world of cigars so delightful.
I like Guinness, and usually choose it over any other so-called beer at the bar. Do I think it's the best beer in the world? For me, yes, it's mother's milk. For everybody, no.
Rant off!
