Despite the immense PRIDE I felt when I witnessed the event, I too thought of the cost.
Then I heard (from a liberal news source) that the cost was minimal by todays standards of news conferences. The ship was already loaded up with crew, so other than the jet flying the President, all the costs would be similar to a standard off site location.
But it's still humorous to hear a liberal question the cost of something.

Characatures of political figures almost always exagerate a physical feature in an unflattering way.
I wouldn't consider those to be adolescent in their humor.
Similarly, the KFC joke looses its umph without the thigh and breast lead in. And the true punch line is the "left wing" reference.
