I am curious about all the comments regarding "decaf" coffee versus regular. Is there an issue here other than the obvious about the caffeine "high"? Regular coffee in the morning with a good medium bodied cigar is one of the highlights of my day.

This is great! Have to say I brewed some fresh de-caf iced tea this week-end and it was a real treat with my gars.

Turnberry the issue with regular coffee is I can't drink the caffiene. Or alcohol for that matter. Hence I started the thread - beverages that are de-caf/alc free. Every one thinks fine coffee and various alcoholic beverages when they think of a good cigar. I needed the alternative drinks.

Have to say I do like Root Beer as well but was affraid to admit it.

Anymore good drinks out there?

Thanks,

Steve

If you can't have the dark roast coffee, then a glass of ice cold chocolate milk. Just trust me on this one.

Sassafrass Tea. My alltime favorite, nonalcoholic and caffine free, drink with a stogie. I get the roots out of my back yard, and wash them, then boil them, add sugar, and there ya go. Sometimes I brew alot, add suger, more sugar, through in some ale yeast, and get alcoholic rootbeer. Not a help on this thread, but thats where I decided I like the tea, tasting before pitching the yeast.

Port, my friend. Nothing beats a glass or two of vintage port to compliment a good cigar...

Perhaps a different perspective, which cigars gowith what beverage. I'm beginning to find different cigars compliment different beverages. Among the non-alky non-caffy drinks, one that is consistently great is a vanilla creme soda (we generally find A & W the best here in the west). Root beers are ok but not all cigars compliment the root beer. WHen I lived in Bethlehem, PA back in the mid to late 70s, I loved birch beer but I wasn't smoking cigars back then. Not sure how that matches. Last night the combo was decaf Starbucks drip and a wonderful PAM. Padron is definitely the best coffee cigar.

Any high quality root beer or cream soda.
Also Ginger beer.

Although I recently tried a ginger beer made at the Mystic Seaport in connecticut.
It had no distinct ginger flavor, and was actually spicy. A look at the ingredients revealed why: The first ingredient after carbonated water and high fructose corn syrup was Capsicum.
For those that don't know, capsicum is the ingredient in hot peppers that make them hot. Pure capsicum is sold in tiny vials with an eye-dropper to put only one or two drops into your recipe.
The benefit to adding capsicum in a beverage? It actually refreshes and quenches your thirst while cooling your body (after the initial shock).

I did not, however, enjoy a cigar with this spicy-hot beverage so I don't know if it goes well with a smoke.
