Here's a question for all you Texans:

Can someone explain the gushing (sometimes plum obnoxious) pride Texans have with Texas?

You don't hear about it from any other states. And when travelling the country and run into someone from Texas, one of the first things they tell you is how great Texas is. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with it, I just don't understand it.

I'm looking for a real explanation... not "'Cause iat's the gratist plaace in the wirld!"

I live in Fort Worth (Euless post office). I am not a native Texan (born and most of my life in Southern California), but there is definitely something special about Texas and Texans. They love their state like no one else does, and take enormous pride in it, and always have. Many Texans refuse to accept the idea that Alaska is bigger. Bigger in size, maybe, but nowhere is bigger in heart. Or BS, and I say that affectionately. I love Texas, too.

You can consider a number of unique reasons that Texan feel about their homeland....a primary reason is Texas history...remember Texas is the ONLY state that was a separate Nation prior to annexing the US (oops it was the other way wasn't it)...but it was an independent country, fought it's own revolution, and has a unique history and culture

Whoa, what do you mean WAS it's own country??

The Republic of Texas lives!!!!!! (and I'm the president, by the way.......)

I've always wondered if other states are used as much in commercials as Texas is. You always see commercials for Ford and Chevy claiming to be - "The Truck of Texas" or "Texas Tough!!!" I just can't picture a rugged commercial for a truck exclaiming "Deleware Tough!!!"

Maybe it's cause we all go around shooting our pistols in the air and singing deep in the heart of texas every 15 minutes....

Remember the Alamo!!!!!!!
Even though it was a bunch of men from Tennessee who fought and died there.

I moved here in 1984 and there is something special, something unique about this place. I guess you have to live here a while to understand it.
Like from 2001: A Space Odyssey "You're about to experience something... different"

Natives are definetly proud of this place. They have bumper stickers that proudly say they are natives. Some say "I am a Yankee, but I got here as fast as I could". License plates can even say "Native Texan"

Kenny Rogers even recorded a song "A Planet, Called Texas"

"Texas can survive without the U.S., but the U.S. can't survive without Texas.

Texas also has its own power grid.

When Texas joined the rest of the U.S., they reserved the right to secede from the U.S. at anytime. This right exists to this day. Texas also has it's own wing in the Capitol reserved incase they do secede.

Y'all come...

As far as commercials (for trucks) goes... you hear that "Tough as Texas" moniker because you are in Texas, other states get the same focused marketing too. In terms of car ads in general, I would have to say that the highest percentage of them are filmed in southern Utah (Canyonlands, Arches, Lake Powell areas).

Anyway, thanks for clearing that up for me, I think I have more of an understanding of it now. We've got bumper stickers about Texas here as well.
